SCOPE Productions and The Mission Creek Festival have the pleasure of announcing DeVotchKa will headline the Mission Creek festival at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday April 2nd, 2011. The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir will be the support for this show.
Describing DeVotchKa’s upcoming performance as intimate would be an extreme understatement. The final show of their Spring tour will take place inside of The First United Methodist Church located on 214 East Jefferson Street; it is a picturesque and hallowed ground of rich acoustics that are sure to resonate with the haunting melodies of lead singer Nick Urata’s ethereal voice.
Picking up one of many DeVotchKa records, one will find it powerfully packed with masterfully orchestrated music. They bring a unique blend of Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, and Mariachi music to the forefront of their composition making them definable only unto themselves. Their intricate musical scores create an atmosphere that will only be amplified by powerful reverberations throughout the church.
DeVotchKa’s musical career is as organic as careers come. From their humble beginnings as a small backing band to their widespread success today, DeVotchKa has continued to build their fan base one listener at a time. The band was featured on the soundtrack of Little Miss Sunshine, where they scored the whole film. They are sure to give any concertgoer the profound musical experience they desire, which is only amplified by the sanctified setting.
Tickets go on sale February 11th at the IMU Box Office, where students can UBILL up to 8 tickets, and all Ticketmaster locations.
