SCOPE Productions, RiverFest, and KRUI are proud to announce that Sleigh Bells will be performing on April 24th in the IMU Main Lounge. Doors open at 7pm, and the show is to begin at 8pm.Since their 2008 inception, Sleigh Bells have developed a cult following within the indie scene and have more recently begun to establish themselves as a household name—by winning hearts through a killer Saturday Night Live performance this month and by landing an impressive headlining spot for the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ spring tour.
No small feat for Derek Edward Miller, former member of hardcore band Poison the Well, and Alexis Krauss, of teen pop roots, who serendipitously met in 2008 at a Brazilian restaurant where Miller was waiting tables at the time. Treats, the noise-pop duo’s 2010 debut album, earned the pair a spot at big name festivals, such as Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, Illinois and Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Treats exemplifies the band’s ability to pair intricate guitars with wispy female vocals while simultaneously incorporating “noise” in an artful and poignant way. Singles like “Rill Rill” and “Crown on the Ground” gave the band commercial success through exposure on television shows like the CW’s Gossip Girl and MTV’s Skins.
Their latest release, Reign of Terror, which dropped on February 20th, expands on the brash, in-your-face sound that was introduced in Treats. Singles “Comeback Kid” and “Born to Lose” have already gained a great deal of online buzz, exciting old and new fans alike. Noise pop, digital hardcore, dance punk—the list of possible quirky-cool identifiers for the band is limitless. A perfect compliment to the 2012 RiverFest programming, this is sure to be a must-see live experience.
