The Deep Cuts

This playlist is about the groove. I touch 4 basic genres throughout the playlist, but each track has a groove I can appreciate. The playlist goes from Jazz to Hip-Hop to jam bands and ends on a mellower note. From slower songs like Prototype and In a Good Way to harder-hitting tracks like I THINK, everything on here makes me want to move my body in some way. When I listen to music, my ear often guides me to the accompaniment behind the vocals before going to the vocals themselves. I often don’t know the lyrics to songs I’ve listened to over and over again and this playlist is kind of the result of that. I love live albums, so two live tracks made it on here. I’m not really a playlist guy, I usually listen to full albums, so I hope this playlist does something for you as a sampler.

Favorite Concert Experience

My friends and I paid for $20 nosebleed tickets to Pitbull at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. When we got to the venue, our tickets were flexed to better seats since the venue didn’t sell enough. We were able to see the show super well, we danced the whole time, and we knew the lyrics to every song in Pitbull’s two-hour set. Sometimes the most memorable concerts aren’t the ones with the most musicianship or impressive productions, but the ones where you have dumb fun dancing with your friends. Pitbull was inspiring with his message, like his songs, and left us happier than ever. If you ever are on the fence about going to a concert with your friends, I say always do it, you might make some unexpected memories.

Hobbies / Interests / Fun Facts / Campus Involvement

I love to run, bike, hike, and watch sports with friends. In addition to SCOPE, I’m a fringe member of the University Trombone Association and I co-host a radio show on KRUI. I work as a Marketing Coordinator at The Englert Theatre downtown, and I often volunteer at other musical events. I play trombone in a brass quintet, Dolce Brass. My favorite color is green and my favorite animal is the owl.
