The Deep Cuts

Eclectic is the word I would use to describe my playlist. From instrumental Funk, to the music your divorced midwestern dad likes, to metal, to house, to indie (and one song from The Phantom of the Opera- sorry not sorry) my music cannot be tied down to one genre. I have a song that I know and love for every specific situation I find myself in. My music is like the soundtrack to my life, backing and mirroring whatever it is that I'm feeling at any given moment. I gravitate towards music that understands me. Music can resonate far beyond lyrics, but I believe it truly transports me into a specific version of myself. Like if I’m walking to class and want to be rather sassy at that moment, I'll turn on Licorice by Azealia Banks. If I’m playing pool with my friends at a local dive bar, I’ll put on Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd. If I want my tumultuous romantic life to be lyrically reiterated, Fiona Apple nails it. To me, music is much more than a mere auditory recognition, but it is a personal experience that digs deep into your soul and pries out what you triage deep inside of you.

Three Favorite Albums

When the Pawn by Fiona Apple

Heaven or Las Vegas by The Cocteau Twins

Grace by Jeff Buckley

Favorite Concert Experience

I am privileged to have several amazing concert experiences to reflect on, but it would be criminal for Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks to not take the cake. Sharing a stadium with two of arguably some of the biggest music legends (like ever) is such an unbelievable joy. I was completely enamored and starstruck the whole time, and in awe at how their voices have held up so beautifully after all this time. I went to this concert in Chicago with my dad and now we have such a special memory to bond over forever.

Honorable mentions to The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, Marina and the Diamonds, Lana Del Rey, Conan Gray- and Oasis that I'll be seeing in March!

Hobbies / Interests / Fun Facts / Campus Involvement

I love playing my pink Fender Stratorcaster or acoustic guitar, singing, and dabbling in harmonica. Other than my passion for music, I enjoy baking, cooking, reading, crosswords, and doing cute activities with my friends. So far my involvement on campus is just SCOPE, but I am looking forward to getting more involved.
