SCOPE Productions has the pleasure of announcing that Augustana will be co-headlining with The Temptations for the 2009 University of Iowa Homecoming concert. This free show will take place on the Pentacrest Lawn on Friday, October 9th immediately following the Homecoming parade.
For more than 40 years The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits and sold-out performances around the world. In the midst of their success, The Temptations played at The University of Iowa on April 6, 1974, and after thirty years they're back! Famous for their rhythm & blues as well as contemporary pop music, the Motown Machine produced hits like: "The Way You Do the Things You Do", "My Girl", "Just My Imagination", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", "Treat Her Like A Lady", and "Stay".
Thanks to their fine-tuned choreography, and even finer harmonies, The Temptations became the definitive male vocal group of the 1960s and one of Motown's most unique acts. The current lineup of Otis Williams, Terry Weeks, G.C. Cameron, Ron Tyson, and Joe Herndon moved forward in the next generation capturing a Grammy in 2000 for their latest album Ear Resistible; The Temptations remain a vital, hit making group.
Based out of California, Augustana is known for their piano driven, instrumental folk rock. Augustana made its debut with Epic Records in 2005 with the release of All The Stars and Boulevards. The album had several singles including: “Boston,” “Mayfield,” “California’s Burning,” and “Hotel Roosevelt”. The album gradually rose to national attention on the strength of the hit "Boston," which rose to number 34 on Billboard’s Hot 100, and was featured on several popular television shows.
The five man group includes Dan Layus, Jared Palomar, Chris Sachtleben, Justin South, and John Vincent.: Augustana’s most recent album, Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt, released in 2008, includes hits “Sweet and Low,” and “I Still Ain’t Over You”.
