Sierra Ferrell has made a name for herself, becoming a fast-rising American singer-songwriter. Ferrell is known for her mix of genres, combining elements of folk, country, and bluegrass. She will be taking the stage in Iowa City on August 28 at the Hancher Greens.  

Growing up in West Virginia, Ferrell left in her early twenties to travel and pursue music. Not having a viral hit song or single traditional TV talent performance, Ferrell grew a following through performance. She looked up to her mentor, Todd Snider, in the early years and performed gigs in Nashville. Until she eventually caught the eye of her current label, Rounder Records. 

Ferrell has collaborated with Old Crow Medicine Show, Zach Bryan, Post Malone, Shakey Graves, Mumford and Sons, and many others. She has captured the hearts of many with her high-spirited and dazzling live performance. This will not be the performers first time in Iowa, having been apart of Hinterland in 2022 as well as 2025, and a special performance Davenport. 

Since the release of her 2024 album Trail Of Flowers, Ferrell won Artist of the Year and Album of the Year prizes at the American Honors & Awards as well as won four GRAMMY awards for Best Americana Album, Best American Roots Performance (“Lighthouse”, Best Americana Performance (“American Dreaming”), and Best American Roots Song (“American Dreaming”). 

She has captured the attention of many high-profile outlets including Pitchfork, Paste, Pop Matters, and No Depression for the release of her 2021 album, Long Time Coming. Recently, Ferrel released a single, Trying to Love You, after her massive hit album. Though she has not officially announced an upcoming full-length studio album.
