Spotify Playlist
The Deep Cuts
First, I want to make the disclaimer that this playlist is not going to sound cohesive (or maybe it will to someone & if so power to you). I just wanted to put together a hodgepodge of songs I love, songs on repeat, songs that I think should be shared.
Growing up I was a serious dancer and I think that had a massive role in what I’m drawn to musically. If I can move to it or choreograph something to it, I’m going to listen to it. “Dionne” by the Japanese House, “Michicant” by Bon Iver, and “ingydar” by Adrianne Lenker all fall into this vein.
Maybe they’re born with it, maybe it’s my Pisces rising/Aries moon combo. I think more than anything songwriting that brings with it strong emotions to feel, to sit with, is at the core of music I love. For yearning/nostalgia: “End of Desire” by Muna, “Real Pain” by Indigo DeSouza, or “Little Things” by Big Thief. For if you want to feel just deeply powerful: “Crush” by Ethel Cain, “Control” by Mannequin Pussy, or “Medicine” by Momma.
Three Favorite Albums
- Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
- Home Video by Lucy Dacus
- Saves the World by MUNA
Favorite Concert Experience
Seeing Lucy Dacus at the Englert with Indigo DeSouza in February 2022 has to be one of my favorite show experiences ever. I loved having the chance to see some of my favorite artists in my hometown venue. It’s so special when audiences feel like a community, and I felt that very much at this show. Screaming along to Night Shift was cathartic and magical.
Hobbies / Interests / Fun Facts / Campus Involvement
Outside of SCOPE you can usually find me spending time with my two tuxedo cats, Patti Smith and Mazzy Star, working as a library assistant for UI Libraries, or practicing escapism by driving around aimlessly listening to music. I study the ancient world and hope to go on to do graduate work in archaeology. I love pomegranates, collecting miscellaneous trinkets for my apartment like a crow, and hiding out in coffee shops wherever I can find them.
