The Deep Cuts
This playlist begins with music that I consider “classics”. Music that my parents or even grandparents listened to while growing up. These songs consists of soul, R&B love music with artists ranging from The O’Jays to New Edition. I feel the emotion in the lyrics and voice of the artist singing the song. I typically listen to this music when I am cooking or cleaning at home.
The next couple of songs are what I listened to in middle and high school and still listen to till this day. Most of my music playlist consists of late 90’s and 2000’s music. With me growing up in Georgia, most of these artists are from the South. During this era, there was a good blend of rap and R&B that I enjoyed.
The next songs I discovered and began to enjoy after being an advisor to music/concert student organizations. Being an advisor for organizations such as SCOPE, can definitely help to expand your music catalog. Black Pumas, Chainsmokers and X Ambassadors are a few of those groups that I have grown to enjoy over the last few years.
Lastly are my songs that are newer or more hype! These are my workout songs or songs I listen to when I want a lot of bass in my Jeep!
Three Favorite Albums
- Friday Night Lights (Mixtape) // J.Cole
- Jay-Z // The Blueprint
- The College Dropout // Kanye West
Favorite Concert Experience
Attending a Big Krit concert with my friends in Las Vegas. This was actually the first concert I had ever attended outside of work. It wasn’t a huge venue, which I appreciated. The energy was amazing! Big Krit is an artist that this entire friend group really likes, so it was great to experience that moment with them.
Hobbies / Interests / Fun Facts / Campus Involvement
Although planning events and advising student organizations take up most of my time, it is something I enjoy very much! Some of the programs that I work with at the University of Iowa include Thursdays on the Terrace, OnIowa!, Family Weekend, concerts, homecoming and more! I’ve had the opportunity to work in student affairs for over five years and have worked at institutions such as Mississippi State University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In my spare time I like to workout (hopefully I can get more consistent again), cook, watch movies and play COD or 2K on Xbox.
