SCOPE was stoked to start this semester with our Treesreach, Pictoria Vark and Houndmouth show! We collaborated with the Stanley Museum of Art to kick off their grand opening with some outstanding talent. You may have seen the posters around town or on social media, and hopefully you were able to make it there. If not, no worries – we’ll recap it for you!
Treesreach
Coming in from Cedar Rapids, Treesreach was our first performer. Their band intertwined rock, folk, jazz, classical, and chamber pop beautifully and put on an amazing set. The crowd was blissful hearing everything from groovy guitar riffs to delicate acoustics. Their genre-bending style brought an arrangement of different melodies and we loved all of it!
Pictoria Vark
Songwriter & bassist Pictoria Vark was the second act of the night. She resides in Iowa City but is now off on tour, so if you missed her performance, you can still make it to a future one! She stunned the crowd with her strong vocals and sick bass as she blended indie-rock with touches of bedroom pop. It was particularly great to hear some music from her newest album The Parts I Dread, which is available in vinyl or digital format here.
Side note: Both Treesreach and Pictoria have some cooool merch. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check them out because they do have some amazing music. And so you can wear one of their T-shirts without fear of being asked “Do you even know them?"
Houndmouth
Our headliner Houndmouth wrapped up the evening wonderfully. Coming from the Midwest, Indiana specifically, they've come a long way in the industry – the band has performed at ACL Festival, Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, and was named a "must-see" at Lollapalooza. In the Stanley park, they enchanted us with their beautiful chemistry, blasting some folky alt-rock that got the crowd going. Everyone was more than happy to contribute their own vocals for their hit song Sedona. You could feel the crowd’s energy and excitement all night, but this was such a special moment!
Once again, we are so proud to have partnered with the Stanley Museum of Art for this show. We all had a ball and can’t wait to see you at our Homecoming show on October 28. More info to come, so stay in touch with our socials!
Thank you for reading! Special thanks to our Digital Marketing Director, Cat Dooley, and our Production Director, Cooper Harrison for capturing such great photos all night.
