Cowgirl Clue, an artist based in LA, performed for the University of Iowa spring carnival, Springapalooza, on May 1, 2026 at Hubbard Park. Below is an interview conducting with Cowgirl Clue on a deep dive of her career so far.

1. You grew up in Austin, Texas. How did that environment and southern culture shape
your identity as an artist?

It gave me the confidence spiritually and visually to navigate through hardships in beautiful
spaces and project that into my art.

2. How did the transition from the Texas scene to LA impact your music and reactive
Direction?
It mainly just accelerated my drive, I had to work multiple jobs to maintain any sort of stability
which gave me so much more value for the time I am able to dedicate to music and where I am
at now.

3. What is an achievement in your career so far that felt especially meaningful to you?
When I released these last two albums, it felt especially relevant to me because I found a sound that no one was really experimenting with prior and feels so aligned with me.
4. When you look back at your journey- from Djing at 17 to now- what moment stands out
as a major turning point?
Going on tours and seeing cool people show up I find monumental, I never could imagine this
happening when I was 17.
5. Have there been any challenges that you have faced that ended up shaping your growth
in a positive way?
One of the main recurring challenges is just simply being misunderstood, which in return makes me strive to make even more art and keep the flame alive.
6. What are you most excited about in this current phase of your career?
Now having Total Freedom a part of my discography, I am really just excited to release more
music and make more things. I would love to score a runway or direct a movie at some point.

7. Your album, Total Freedom, came out on September 25, 2025- what was the creative
vision behind that project?
I wanted it to feel as true as it was in real time. Everything you see and hear are just natural
progressions mirroring the things happening in my life. The cover art was taken with my friend in my backyard, I wrote High Tide while visiting Hawaii, I was inspired by the firework stands that were being built in July and wrote the lyrics for TNT one night. And as for the sound, I mainly wanted to bring an even more dynamic range into the project and focus on expanding on my songwriting, while making music that bended past expectations, yet felt meaningful and complete.
8. What was your favorite track to write off of your latest album, Total Freedom.
Right now, it’s Ballet Flat$ On The Ga$ Pedal, Full Throttle, and Arrows.
