SCOPE kicked off a week full of Earth Day celebrations on Thursday, April 16 with a successful show at Trumpet Blossom cafe, a perfectly ambient location.

The night started with Iowa City local performer, Jim Swim, who warmed the crowd up with his unique vocals and experimental sound. Following that came a performance by Daniel Xavier & Co., an R&B band from Waterloo, IA. By the time the band came on stage, the venue had already reached maximum capacity. They played mainly original music, with a few covers, including crowd favorite Steve Lacy cover.

Whether observing from a table while chatting with friends or standing in the crowd near the stage, everyone in the audience seemed to be moving in harmony to the music. Daniel Xavier even praised the crowd for being such an engaging audience, saying in a post on Instagram, "You could really feel the love and magic in the air."

The show, and the other upcoming Earth celebrations, are a collaboration between SCOPE and several other student organizations: Earth & Environmental Science Club, D.I.R.T., Tree Hugger Magazine, and Plant Futures. This show felt like a true representation of community, as so many different groups and people came together to celebrate a common cause: our Earth.
