How would I describe my music taste? I would say that I like a little bit of everything. I acquire my taste from all the people I’ve encountered and places I’ve gone over the span of my life, finding this song through this person and that band through that person. I’m always listening and taking in what I hear around me. I flow between genres of folk, indie-rock, classic rock, and pop, but will really listen to anything that grabs my attention. I’m also a big lyrics girl, so anything that has undertones of heart-wrenching will probably find its way onto one of my playlists. That being said, I’m probably not always the person you want to give aux to. This playlist is a compilation of some of my favorite songs and artists as of late that hopefully showcase my music taste better than I am able to explain it.
Three Favorite Albums
Evermore by Taylor Swift
Heard it in a Past Life by Maggie Rogers
Abbey Road by The Beatles
Favorite Concert Experience
I go through a cyclical experience of loving music, so wanting to hear it live, and loving music because of my experience hearing it live. I would have to say that one of my most memorable concert experiences was Hinterland Music Festival in 2024. This experience, which was my first time attending a festival, opened my eyes to a whole new world and made me realize that there is a community of people who love music in the same way I do. From Hippo Campus, Hozier, Hans Williams, Ritchy Mitch & the Coal Miners, and The Red Clay Strays to Lizzy McAlpine, Flipturn, Chappell Roan, Ethal Cain, Mt. Joy, and Noah Kahan; this lineup meant everything to me. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see so many people gather in the middle-of-nowhere Iowa and suffer through August heat simply because of their shared love for live music.
(P.S. – I also have to mention that I recently had the privilege of seeing Sir Paul McCartney in concert, and I would be lying if I said that wasn’t one of the greatest shows I will ever see.)
Hobbies / Interests / Fun Facts / Campus Involvement
Aside from concert-going and music-listening, you can find me baking one of my signature recipes, curled up on the couch reading a good book, or going on a (very slowly-paced) run. I also enjoy scrapbooking, thrifting, and playing cards. I love the moon and musicals, my cat and camping, hammocking and Hawkeyes!
