Name: Olivia Manaligod (she/her)
Hometown: Iowa City, Iowa

Year: Senior

Field(s) of Study: Vocal Performance and Communication Studies

SCOPE Position: Talent Buyer

Hi everyone! My name is Olivia Manaligod and I am this year’s Talent Buyer.

This is my third year in SCOPE, which feels weird to think about since each year has been so different for me! My first year, I was in person as a new general committee member, and then I did my second year as a general committee member online. I have been on the Talent Buying committee this whole time and being in SCOPE has taught me a lot about the music industry.

As Talent Buyer, I am responsible for booking the artists we bring to campus. I am the liaison between agents, middle agents, and the spaces we use for shows. I will oversee the Talent Buying Committee, Lamplight shows, and more, largely impacting the “aesthetic” of SCOPE Productions. I also help out in any ways I can, like a general committee member would!

Three Favorite Albums: SAWAYAMA by Rina Sawayama / The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins / Perfect Velvet by Red Velvet

Favorite Concert Experience: My favorite concert experience was seeing SEVENTEEN, a kpop boy-group in Chicago when I was 16 or 17. I remember being so nervous when trying to secure tickets online and finally seeing them in person with my friend. They were so talented and so fun to watch. They are also my favorite group, so finally seeing them in person felt so rewarding. A close second is seeing Mitski at Mission Creek Festival my freshman year, which was what made me want to join SCOPE.

Hobbies & Interests: Much like Maggie, I really got into baking and cooking during quarantine this past year and this year. It has become a valuable source of self care for me. I also have gotten really into playing video games. I usually only watched my family members play video games as a source of entertainment, too anxious to lose in a game, but this year I overcame that and got really into playing RPGs.

Music has always been a love of mine, and not just listening to it. I come from a family of musicians and I grew up playing violin and saxophone. I have studied singing classically since I was 14, and I have continued to do so through the voice program here at the university. I have been working on recording music projects with friends since freshman year, and I hope to get better at making my own contemporary music!

The Deep Cuts:

My SCOPE Selects playlist is a messy mixture of the different genres and songs I love. You can expect R&B, pop, alternative music, hip hop, classical music, Opera, K-pop, J-pop, French music, rock, jazz, and more. Looking over this playlist, I wouldn’t be surprised if you feel like skipping a song or get surprised. I mean, a Megan Thee Stallion Song is followed by Claude Debussy. Still, I thought showing you everything I like would be more genuine than trying to seem cool to you all. I hope you find some new music to listen to when you check out this playlist!
