Hi!!! I’m Emily Peterson and I am a first-year member of this organization. My favorite part of SCOPE so far has been experiencing the joy of live music here on campus, and getting the chance to interact with my fellow music fanatics. I am looking forward to filming some great artists at our upcoming shows this spring!

Three Favorite Albums:

  • folklore by Taylor Swift
  • Give Me A Minute by Lizzy McAlpine
  • The King by Sarah Kinsley

Favorite Concert Experience:

My favorite concert I’ve ever been to was Saint Motel, who performed at the Des Moines Art Festival in 2017. I was at the barricade for this show, and I remember the lead singer, A/J, reaching down to my friend and I and holding our hands as we screamed the lyrics to their songs. I sang so loudly that I had no voice after the show, and I couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the night.

Hobbies/Interests/Fun Facts/Campus Involvement:

Outside of SCOPE, I spend a lot of time with my family, friends, and girlfriend, Abby. I have always been a people person, so the most valuable moments to me are those that I share with my loved ones. I am a very artistic individual, so I like to draw, paint, and play music in my spare time. I am currently in the process of learning piano, which has been a really fun project for me to take on. I also enjoy watching movies, going on walks, and hanging out with my dogs, Bella and Georgia.

The Deep Cuts:

I like to listen to music that makes me feel things, whether those emotions are joy, nostalgia, or sadness. I am deeply connected to what I listen to, and I often find myself applying the lyrics of a song to my own life experiences. This playlist contains a whole jumble of emotions - ranging from the heartbreak of “I Don’t Know You At All” by Lizzy McAlpine to the upbeat “Disco” by Surf Curse. My hope is that this playlist will allow you to take some time and reflect upon the emotions you’ve been experiencing as of late. I think there is a lot of value in giving yourself the time and space to feel. I hope you enjoy my playlist, and feel free to reach out if you want any more recommendations!
