Julianna Barwick's art is equal parts force and beauty. Her music finds its motor in significant events in her own life, but they are abstracted into a sense of sonic wonderment, a radiance that you could say is her signature sound. That radiance has been taken to new zeniths with Nepenthe, her third full-length album, which was recorded in Reykjavík, Iceland, in the dark cold days of February.
Tracing their origins to an open mic night in Seattle, The Head and the Heart have come a long way since their first album dropped in 2011. One of Sub Pop Records most lucrative debut releases in years, the Head and the Heart have since then continued to play a prestigious list of venues across the United States and the rest of the world. The stomping, strumming, and melodious sing-a-longs from their pub days have led to a huge fan base garnering them the chance to play with other greats such as Dr. Dog, Iron and Wine, and Death Cab...
Formerly of indie bands Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, Spencer Krug’s latest band, Moonface, is making his way to The Mill this winter. Moonface’s mysterious and self-reflexive persona was crafted as an outlet for his dark pop and melodious experiments. The album on tour is “Julia With the Blue Jeans On”, and it portrays themes of raw human emotion driven by love and intimacy. The album consists primarily of voice and piano, revealing the beautiful classical undertones created by Moonface in tracks like “Love The House You’re In”.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Best Coast makes California proud with thier down-to-earth attitude and vintage surf rock sound. Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno create infectiously toe-tappable songs about everything from crushes to the beach to the love of a pet cat. The band’s distinctive sun-kissed SoCal vibe is inspired by garage rock and 1960s girl-group pop, with Cosentino’s sweet, sassy vocals perfectly complementing fuzzy, reverb-tickled guitar licks.
